27-inch desktop monitor displaying a vibrant high-resolution image in a modern workspace

Best 27-inch monitors UK 2026: for work, home office and gaming

Phil

A 27-inch monitor is a popular and practical choice for home offices, business desks and gaming setups. It gives you plenty of screen space for multitasking while still fitting comfortably on most standard desks.

There is also plenty of choice at this size. From affordable Full HD monitors for everyday work through to QHD, 4K and high-refresh-rate OLED gaming displays, the right 27-inch monitor depends on how you plan to use it.

In this guide, we look at what to consider when choosing a 27-inch monitor and some of our recommended options from KOORUI, Samsung and ASUS.

What to look for in a 27-inch monitor

  • Resolution: Full HD is a practical option for everyday use, while QHD provides a sharper image and more usable workspace. 4K offers even greater detail.
  • Panel type: IPS panels offer wide viewing angles and consistent colour, VA panels typically provide stronger contrast, while OLED delivers excellent contrast, deep blacks and very fast pixel response.
  • Refresh rate: For general office and home use, you do not need an extremely high refresh rate. For gaming, higher refresh rates such as 165Hz, 180Hz, 200Hz and 240Hz can provide much smoother motion when paired with suitable hardware.
  • HDR: HDR support can improve the range of brightness, contrast and colour in supported content. Look beyond the HDR label itself, as capabilities vary between monitors. Some gaming and premium displays also carry standards such as DisplayHDR.
  • Connectivity: Check the HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C and other connections available on both the monitor and the device you plan to connect.
  • Ergonomics: If you spend long periods at your desk, look at stand adjustment as well as screen specification. Height adjustment, tilt, swivel, pivot and VESA mounting can make a monitor easier to position, and are particularly useful in business and multi-monitor setups.
  • How you use it: A monitor for spreadsheets and email has very different requirements from one designed for competitive gaming or creative work.

Is a 27-inch monitor the right size?

A 27-inch monitor sits between the more compact footprint of a 24-inch display and the larger viewing area of a 32-inch screen. For many desks, that makes it a useful middle ground.

There is enough screen space to work comfortably with multiple windows, spreadsheets, documents or applications, while the display remains manageable on a conventional desk.

A 24-inch monitor may be preferable where desk space is limited, while a 32-inch display gives you a larger image but needs more physical room. Your ideal choice will depend on your desk, viewing distance, resolution and what you use your computer for.

1080p, 1440p or 4K: which resolution is best at 27 inches?

Resolution is particularly important when choosing a 27-inch monitor because it affects both image sharpness and usable workspace.

Full HD (1920 x 1080) remains a practical option for general office work, web browsing and everyday computing. At 27 inches it has a pixel density of approximately 82 pixels per inch, so text and fine detail will not appear as sharp as they do on a higher-resolution display.

QHD (2560 x 1440) increases pixel density to approximately 109 pixels per inch. It provides noticeably greater detail and more usable desktop space, making QHD a strong all-round choice for productivity and gaming.

4K UHD (3840 x 2160) increases pixel density to approximately 163 pixels per inch. It provides excellent detail for photography, video, design and productivity. Depending on your operating system and preferences, display scaling can be used to keep text and interface elements comfortable to read.

  • Everyday office and home use: Full HD remains a practical and cost-effective choice.
  • Productivity and multitasking: QHD provides additional sharpness and workspace.
  • Creative and detail-focused work: QHD or 4K are worth considering.
  • Gaming: QHD offers an excellent balance between image quality and graphics performance, while 4K places greater demands on your graphics hardware.

IPS vs VA vs OLED

IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels are widely used because they provide broad viewing angles and consistent colour reproduction. They are well suited to office work, general computing and gaming.

VA (Vertical Alignment) panels typically provide stronger contrast, which can produce deeper-looking dark scenes. This makes VA an attractive choice for general entertainment and immersive gaming.

OLED works differently because individual pixels can produce their own light and switch off independently. This enables very deep blacks, excellent contrast and extremely fast pixel response. These characteristics make OLED particularly attractive for premium gaming setups.

Panel technology is only one part of choosing a monitor. Resolution, refresh rate, HDR capability, response performance, connectivity and ergonomics should also be considered.

Our value choice for everyday use: KOORUI

If you want a straightforward 27-inch monitor for everyday use without paying for features you may not need, KOORUI is a good place to start.

The KOORUI G2711P combines a 27-inch Full HD IPS panel with a 200Hz refresh rate and modern connectivity. Although that high refresh rate also makes it suitable for gaming, it can equally work as an affordable everyday monitor for browsing, documents, streaming and general home or office use.

KOORUI is particularly worth considering if value is one of your main priorities and you want a good level of specification without necessarily paying extra for one of the more established monitor brands.

Our branded everyday choice: Samsung

If you would prefer a monitor from a familiar, established technology brand, Samsung is one of our recommendations for everyday home and office use.

The Samsung S36D combines a 27-inch Full HD display with a curved VA panel and 100Hz refresh rate. The curved screen gives the display a slightly more immersive feel compared to a flat panel, which can work well for entertainment and general home use as well as everyday computing. It is a good fit for browsing, documents and streaming, particularly for customers who prefer to stay with a recognised monitor brand.

For buyers who want to move beyond Full HD, Samsung also offers higher-resolution options, including the ViewFinity range for business and productivity-focused environments.

Our gaming choice: ASUS ROG

For a gaming-focused setup, our recommendation moves to ASUS ROG. Gaming monitors need to balance resolution, refresh rate, response performance and panel technology, rather than simply offering a larger screen.

The ASUS ROG Swift XG27WCS is our choice for gamers looking for a strong QHD setup. It combines a 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution with a curved VA panel, 180Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

It also supports AMD FreeSync and DisplayHDR 400, adding to its gaming-focused specification. The combination of QHD resolution and a high refresh rate makes it a strong option for gamers looking for greater image detail without making the jump to 4K.

The stand provides height, tilt and swivel adjustment, while 100 x 100mm VESA mounting gives you the option of using a compatible monitor arm or wall mount.

QHD is particularly attractive for PC gaming at 27 inches because it provides a noticeable increase in detail over Full HD without placing the same demands on your graphics card as 4K gaming.

Step up to OLED: ASUS ROG OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2

If you want to take the gaming experience further, the ASUS ROG OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2 moves to a QHD OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate.

OLED gives you exceptionally deep blacks and excellent contrast because individual pixels can switch off independently. Combined with fast pixel response and a 240Hz refresh rate, this makes the ASUS ROG OLED a premium choice for fast-paced and visually demanding games.

It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC, making it a strong option for high-performance gaming PCs where smooth motion and image quality are both priorities.

If gaming performance is the priority and your PC is capable of driving high frame rates at QHD, the ASUS ROG range is where we would start.

Best 27-inch 4K monitors

If sharpness, screen detail and productivity are more important than a very high refresh rate, a 27-inch 4K monitor is worth considering. At this size, the 3840 x 2160 resolution provides a very high pixel density, making text, images and detailed content appear particularly sharp.

KOORUI E2741A: our value 4K choice

The KOORUI E2741A combines a 27-inch 4K UHD IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. It is a good option if you want the additional detail of 4K for productivity, content, photography or everyday computing while keeping value in mind.

It follows the same approach as the rest of our KOORUI recommendations: a strong specification for customers who are less concerned about having one of the traditional big-name monitor brands.

Samsung ViewFinity S8: our 4K business and productivity choice

If you want a recognised brand and a monitor designed with productivity and professional use in mind, the Samsung ViewFinity S8 S27D800UAU is our step-up 4K recommendation.

It combines a 27-inch 3840 x 2160 4K UHD IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. Connectivity includes HDMI and DisplayPort, covering the connections commonly used in business desktop and workstation setups. The ViewFinity range is aimed at professional and productivity-focused environments where image detail and usable workspace are more important than a high gaming refresh rate.

If value is the main priority, consider the KOORUI 4K option. If you want a recognised brand and a monitor built around 4K productivity and professional use, step up to the Samsung ViewFinity S8.

Is 4K worth it on a 27-inch monitor?

Whether 4K is worthwhile depends on how you use your computer. For spreadsheets, detailed documents, photography, design and other productivity tasks, the additional pixel density can provide noticeably sharper text and images.

For gaming, the decision is different. Running modern games at 4K can require considerably more graphics performance than Full HD or QHD, particularly if you also want high frame rates.

For that reason, we would generally favour a high-refresh-rate QHD monitor such as the ASUS ROG models above for gaming, while 4K models such as the KOORUI E2741A and Samsung ViewFinity S8 make more sense where productivity and image detail are the priority.

What connections should you look for?

Before choosing a monitor, check which connections are available on your desktop PC, laptop, games console or docking station.

HDMI is widely supported across desktops, laptops, consoles and other devices. DisplayPort is also common on desktop PCs and can be particularly useful when running higher resolutions and refresh rates.

USB-C can be particularly useful for laptop and business setups on monitors that support it. Depending on the monitor, USB-C may support video, data or power delivery, so check the individual product specification if these features are important to your setup.

If you use a laptop or docking station, check that it supports the resolution and refresh rate you want to use. A high-refresh-rate or 4K monitor can only operate at the specification supported by the connected device and connection.

Which 27-inch monitor should you choose?

There is no single 27-inch monitor that is right for everyone, so we would choose based on how you plan to use it.

  • Want good everyday value? Start with KOORUI.
  • Prefer a recognised brand for everyday home or office use? Look at Samsung.
  • Building a gaming setup? The ASUS ROG Swift XG27WCS is our QHD gaming recommendation.
  • Want a premium gaming display? Step up to the ASUS ROG OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2.
  • Want affordable 4K for productivity? Consider the KOORUI E2741A.
  • Want a recognised-brand 4K monitor for business and productivity? Consider the Samsung ViewFinity S8.

The important thing is to choose the monitor that fits how you actually use your computer rather than simply buying the model with the highest specification.
